Philosophy
My goal is to help students become my future colleagues and fellow professionals. Every student has their own unique strengths and weaknesses that also vary with personality. I believe it is my role to help further cultivate my students strengths and help them better understand how to tackle their weaknesses. My teaching revolves around one pillar: “Progress over perfection”. We explore this pillar in weekly lessons with students, which revolve around the process of analysis, synthesis, evaluation, and application. I try to emphasize why we work on certain material and how exactly it is helping improve specific attributes. This is all done with the emphasis of starting at your best ability and tracking the baby steps of improvement along the way. This is all done in order to help integrate the tools and mentality needed for independent and consistent growth as musicians.
When accepting members into my studio I am not looking for the most talent or acclaim, but rather someone who is curious and determined as I believe those are the two biggest avenues to success. I hope to guide my students not only to be better musicians but also better people, and stand out professionals, further cultivating the community whether music or non music related.
